How does Remedial Massage work

Remedial MassageManipulation of soft tissue in the body encourages muscles to relax and increases blood flow to the area.  Remedial Massage doesn’t just feel good.  It reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion, and increases serotonin and endorphins in the brain.

It brings oxygen and nutrients to the tissue and removes toxins and “rubbish” entrapped in the muscles.  It can help prevent or alleviate pain, discomfort, muscles spasm, and stress.

It also improves functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems and may improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness.

The reduction of pain and increase in flexibility can often be felt after just one session.

What conditions can massage help?

  • Muscle and joint stiffness
  • Chronic or acute muscle pain
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
  • Chronic conditions such as tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fascitis, temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, headaches
  • Stress and tension
  • Insomnia.

Besides helping with negative conditions such as these, you can expect the following from a Therapeutic Massage session:

  • Stress Relief
  • Improvement in circulation
  • Increased flexibility
  • Reduction in fluid retention
  • Improved sleep
  • A feeling of well being.

What to expect from a massage treatment:

During your first visit you will be asked questions about your health that will be used to determine what you need in the session.  A session can be as short as 15 minutes, or up to 90 minutes depending on your needs and preference.  You will be covered with a sheet and only the part of the body that is being treated will be uncovered.  At all times, your privacy and modesty is respected.

After a massage treatment:

After your session, you will feel calm and happily tired.  You will feel more supple but perhaps a little light headed immediately after.  You will feel relaxed and a general pleasantness.  Clients often remark after a treatment, “I didn’t know it was possible to feel this relaxed”.
